Amid protests, Parliament passes bill giving powers to district magistrates to issue adoption orders
Amid chaotic scenes of disruptions, adjournments and protests by members of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha over the Pegasus snooping row, farm laws and price rise, the treasury benches pushed for and made way for passage of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Bill 2021. The Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha in March. Adoption orders which as of now are issued by district courts will be issued by district magistrates once the amendments are notified as law.
